how does the fuel transfer work?

just a random question I cant seem to find anywhere. I am curious how the fuel tanks transfer between one another. The reason why I even ask is because I have to mix my fuel half 91 and half E85 to reach a proper octane level my car requires for the boost I am running. Anywho, so when I fill up 8 gallons of e85 per say, does it transfer all of that to one tank and then the next 8 gallons of 91 stays in the other tank? Or does it keep both tanks equally full? Just curious if anyone knows exactly how it works during fueling! I appreciate any feedback. thanks
