brake petal sink to floorboard

Hi Gals and Guys,

Just joined today. I have a 1972 vette. I installed a rebuilt brake booster/master cylinder.
(the set arrived bolted together [pre-fitted and non-adjustable?]). I measured the distance between the master cylinder push rod and
the brake booster push rod to be 0.33 thousands. I bench bled the master cylinder, while leveled on my bench vise. I installed Brake booster then the master cylinder, Then I flushed and bled the brakes. By the way: (the front end was lifted higher than the rear to bleed the rear brake cylinders).
The brake petal now firm.
When I started the engine, w/ foot pressure on the brake petal, the petal hit the floor.
I found no leaks and the rubberized flex brake lines looked good.
By the way: the assembly came without firewall gasket and I did'nt notice until after the unit(s) were installed! So no firewall gasket installed.
I am at wits end!!

Can Anybody out there Help Me? PLEASE.

Thank You for your kind help and consideration,

Charlie
