Angry 1986 C-4 overcharging...... or is it?

OK....... I'm new here so bear with me........So, I'm cruising in the C-4 on a nice sunny day and my alternator starts to overcharge up to 16.3volts,
or at least that is what my new re-built dash cluster says, I have no reason to think my dash gauge is lying to me, I just purchased it two weeks prior and paid $300.00 for it. So I immediately purchase a new alternator for my baby......yes,without even testing the old one, Which happened to be only3 years old. I install the new alternator and guess what? it's still overcharging, according to my dash gauge, I then come up with the bright idea......."hey I know , I'll test the alternator"........alternator tested at 13.6 volts, dash gauge is saying 15.7 volts. I then come to the conclusion that I am an idiot now I have been called an idiot in the past by various different people, but I never believed them. Until now anyway I guess the moral of this story is............well...........it's........it's gotta be.............see what I meen? I'm an idiot
