gauge locked in at 80 lbs--readout tracks it --it varies -but not accurate --this happened when engine was cold and i got down on it and apparently pegged out the gauge ????????? any comments or fixes would be appreciated :)

Does it stay at 80 when the key is on but engine not running?
If so the sensor is most likely shot. Replacement is the only option.

Oil pressure sensors on C5's are prone to go bad.

The approved method is to pull the intake. There is a method that requires you to remove the cowl cover then cut an access hole.....
