I have an 87 convertable with 40K miles. It seems to start fine when I start it for the first time after sitting for a few days. When I go anywhere & shut it off for a few hours I have to crank forever before it starts. Then it kicks out smoke & misses until I rev it up for a few seconds. Then it runs fine again. I've been told new injectors, valve seals, etc. So I'm looking for more ideas before I do any of those things. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.......Zeeth

I'm pretty sure it's your injectors. You have one or more bad injectors that are leaking down thus fooling the computer into thinking the engine is flooded and this makes it hard to start. If you hold the gas pedal to the floor and try to start it when warm/hot, it should start right up. Your car starts right up when cold as the gas that has leaked down has evaporated. Best bet is to replace all 8 injectors, especially if they are original to the car. For help on injectors, contact Fuel Injector Connection in Georgia (fuelinjectorconnection.com). They have good prices and are very helpful and knowledgable.:)
