Well on the way home from work yesterday I was rounding a corner and the car went full throttle by itself !

At first I thought the car was sliding on grain dust (Grain Silo nearby) then I realized very quickly that I was at full throttle. The ass-end kicked out I corrected and slammed the brakes, pulled the E-brake (useless) and slid to a stop against a steel post.

Overall the damage is not too bad. Right front turnsignal now resides with the brake cooling duct, and creased the front fascia just below the headlight door.

I filed a complaint with the NHTSA this morning.

The cop was looking at the accident and after we got aquainted and he realized I wasn't drunk or a crack head started joking a bit. He said you ain't fooling me ! I told him if I did that on purpose you think I would have called you ? :)

Anyway, the car was flatbedded to my local dealer and awaiting estimates.

Anyone heard of this before ?

I have heard of it. Check your cruise control and see if it was centered on the stalk.
I read somewhere where sometimes an electrical glitch can cause this to happen as they are drive by wire.
Someone wrote that they were at a stop sign and the car started through just like it had a mind of it's own (A4 auto). He set the brake, and it kept going. He put it in neutral and the engine reved to the limiter and shut itself down. Th dealer could not figure out the cause. One of the electrical wizards on another board said it could have been the cruise control controls. I keep mine in the Off position unless I'm using it.
