So the car has been sitting for 8 years in the car port and I decided I want to get her running again but she doesn't turn over. The engine was well lubbed and still is filled with oil so the internals are not seized, with the belts I decided to WD40 them and let it sit for a bit, when it came to trying to start her nothing......(used a good battery so there was enough juice) literally nothing, no sound or anything however I noticed by the battery that it smelled like it was burning or something and it smoked a little, it smelled like an electrical burn. I disconnected the battery and checked to see whats up but cant find anything. Any suggestions as to whats up?

Could be numerous things. Check the wiring from the battery to the starter. Check the fusible links. Put the headlights on and confirm through the grills that they look nice and bright. Try banging on the starter with a hammer while someone tries to crank it over. Use a test light at the starter to first see if you're getting battery power there (most likey you are) but also test the start/ignition wire at the starter. When you turn the key to the start position that start/ignition wire should light up getting 12V.

Pull the plugs out and put a little automatic transmission down each cylinder. Let it sit for a few days then turn over by hand. When the motor turns over re-assemble and try to fire it up.

Good luck.

A couple of years ago I was talking with the head chemist in Texas for the product Diesel Klean and the topic of Marvel came up. He said that every few years a new rumor comes up to mix Marvel and Diesel klean and it will improve a diesel engine performance. He said that they had analized it in the lab. and it is a legacy product nathing more. I asked him what that meant and he replied that it has been around since 1923 and does nothing but smell good because of the oil of wintergreen that is in it and ofcourse the pretty red color that it turns your gas.

Nothing to do really with this thread I just thought it might be of interest.

Good luck.
