DTC Code Scanners
My summer ride is an '05 Corvette, a model well known for electrical issues. I’m not a mechanic by any stretch, but it would be nice to have a clue to the cause of a problem when I head to the dealer or to a mechanic shop. So I have been considering purchasing a DTC code scanner and am wondering if it would be worth the money. Specifically I wonder if magnetic shocks and several other features unique to 'Vettes and not found on most other cars would make most scanner models "less than complete" tools for use on a 'Vette.
• Do you think it would be worth the trouble and expense of buying a 'generic' scanner which would be used primarily for a Corvette?
• If so, are there models especially good at catching ‘Vette DTC’s (that aren't hundreds of dollars or more?--I'm a cheap DIY)
• Would most scanners read codes specific to ‘Vettes?
Almost forgot, and maybe a scanner could tell me--Is there any way to tell if a particular module has been ever been re-flashed?
Thanks for any guidance.
