While European automakers initially ignored hybrid technology, it seems as though the craze has finally caught on, with everyone from Ferrari to Porsche announcing hybrid models of one kind or another. Ferrari will debut a 599 Hybrid concept, while Porsche will show the GT3 R Hybrid race car and a hybrid version of the 2011 Cayenne.
Porsche's new parent company, Volkswagen, also has plenty of hybrid news. VW will showcase its new Touareg SUV, with a hybrid version. In addition, another VW-brand company, Audi, will show off a hybrid version of its new A8. Other hybrids include the Lotus Evora 414E Hybrid and the Lexus CT200h hybrid.
Other show highlights are sure to include a new high-performance version of the Lamborghini Gallardo, referred to as either the LP57-4 SuperVeloce or the LP570-4 Superleggera, as well as Audi's new RS5. Plus, Mercedes-tuner Carlsson is debuting its new C25, an SL65-based supercar while VW/Audi-tuner ABT Sportsline is showing-off a 600-hp Audi R8 GTR, an R8 Spyder, A8 and a modified Volkswagen Golf R.

To celebrate 50 years since a Corvette first competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Chevy has just announce the new 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition with brake and suspension upgrades, as well as a lighter overall weight thanks to plenty of carbon fiber. The changes, says Chief Corvette Engineer Tadge Juechter, are enough to shave up to 3.0 seconds per lap off a standard Z06 on a track like Laguna Seca.
"For track use, the Z06 Carbon is the best balanced Corvette yet. It combines the lightweight and naturally-aspirated Z06 engine with the road-holding and braking of the ZR1," he comments.
Upgrades include Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, straight from the ZR1, as well as 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, coated in Michelin PS2 tires. Upgraded engine and transmissions coolers are part of the package, as is a Magnetic Selective Ride Control system. Ad let’s not forget a special carbon fiber hood (lighter than the one used on the ZR1), as well as a carbon fiber egine cover, carbon fiber rocker pannels and front splitter. There’s even a ZR1-inspired rear spoiler, plus black headlights and mirrors.
The body of the Carbon Edition Vette will be offered in two colors (either, Inferno Orange or the all-new Supersonic Blue, pictured above), while the interior gets ebony... [Read More]

General Motors sees rough waters ahead for the Corvette unless changes are made to the vehicle now. So in an effort to solve any potential issues before they actually become problems, Chevy has decided to look outside America for help.
So what would sort of problems could the incredibly capable American icon have? Well, according to a report in AutoWeek, GM saw a 48 percent sales decline for the Corvette over the last year, while the bigger issue might be that the average age of Corvette buyers continues to rise. Last year, the average age was 54. Chevy believes that in order to combat this issue and make the Vette more attractive to a younger demographic it needs a design change. After all, the car's performance certainly can't be in question.
According to GM's VP of global design, Ed Welburn, last year the company approached its European Design studios to to send in next generation (C7) Corvette design proposals. “We have to develop a design that feels trimmer, meaner, to go along with the incredible performance that the car has,” said Welburn. Currently, the Corvette faces the stigma of being a large car, when in fact it is roughly the same size as the current Porsche 911.
Still, Welburn doesn't want to alienate his core audience. Speaking about the new design he... [Read More]
