 2010 Corvette ZR1 Gets New Traction Control System, Launch Control |

The Corvette ZR1 is already one of the best road-going machines ever made, but that hasn't stopped the Chevy engineers from adding a few updates for the 2010 model.
The main upgrade is a new traction control system that uses what Chevy calls Performance Traction Management (PTM). Essentially this works like a typical traction control system, limiting power delivery, except that it can do so right up to the maximum amount of grip available and without the driver having to modulate the throttle. Instead the PTM system handles that. When exiting a corner, the driver just needs to mash his right foot on the throttle and the car takes care of the rest.
Other new aesthetic offerings for 2010 include a new Torch Red paint color, a Cashmere interior color and optional Competition Gray wheels.
This new technology does, however, come at a cost, as the 2010 Zr1 will retail for $2,910 more than the '09 model, for a total of $109,530. Still, it's a bargain for the price.

Chevy Rolls Out 1.5 Millionth Corvette: a 2010 Grand Sport |

Fifty-six years after the first Corvette rolled off the assembly line, General Motors can now boast it has produced 1.5 million of America's sports car. Chevrolet Product Marketing Director Karen Rafferty made the announcement at the June meeting of the Greater Atlanta Automotive Media Association.
The 1,500,000th 'Vette, produced at the company's Bowling Green Assembly plant is a 2010 Grand Sport Convertible, painted white with a red interior and a black top. This color combo is almost identical to the first, 500,000th and 1 millionth Corvettes which were built in 1953, '77 and '92.
The Grand sport replaces the Z51 model and offers performance closer in line to the Z06, thanks to a revised suspension, wider tires, bigger brakes, shorter gear ratios and a few other toys as well.
Suspension upgrades include new spring, shock and stabilizer bar specifications, helping the Grand Sport to achieve 1.0 g under cornering. Also helping out in that department are some 18-inch front and and 19-inch rear wheels with 275/35/18 front and massive 325/30/19 rear tires.
Inside those wheels is a big surprise as well, with a serious brake kit that includes six-piston front calipers with 14-inch rotors and four-piston rear calipers with 13.4-inch rotors.

While President Obama and General Motors CEO Fritz Henderson are both expected to hold press conferences today, officially GM has already filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection.
Once the world's largest automaker and a symbol of the success of free market economics, GM is now a symbol of failure. In the 1950s it employed over 500,000 people and produced more than half of all the vehicles sold in the United States. Now it also holds the dubious title of the world's third-largest bankruptcy - and the largest bankruptcy for a manufacturing company.
General Motors, backed by yet another government loan from the U.S. Treasury is expected to get the same fast-tracked bankruptcy proceedings as the smaller U.S. automaker Chrysler - which filed for Chapter 11 just one month ago and which already appears to be emerging. Just yesterday a judge approved the sale of Chrysler's assets to a group comprised of Fiat, the U.S. government and the UAW. The Chrysler Chapter 11 proceedings were seen by many as a practice for the much larger General Motors corporation.
